The goal of this project as a whole is to modernize Quake's aesthetics as much as possible without changing the mood, theme, or atmosphere of any setting. Furthermore, this project will cooperate with engine designers and listen to the community to provide the end-user with an easy-to-install pack which will be used simply and efficiently by the Quake engine.

October 20, 2007 - Up2nOgOoD[ROCK] (Retexture)
The updates keep coming. Today I'm proud to release two more texture packs - one faithful Aerowalk pack, and our previous release but in a 14.9mb, low quality jpg form.

The Aerowalk pack features textures by Moon (and one modified by me). The custom textures used in the map resemble the Quake original "Tech" textures, and are thus a perfect addition for any map maker wanting to use "authentic" Quake textures. They are very original and faithful textures which give the map an authentic quake atmosphere. The Aerowalk pack comes in two flavors - an update patch for those who have our previous, 197mb release, and a pack for those who do not. The Textures page has been updated to have a link for Aerowalk, which also contains a link to a txt file with the list of Aerowalk textures and their md4 signatures.

The lower jpg-compressed texture pack has been made mostly for those people under strong space or FPS constraints. This pack, while looking much better than 8bit textures, is nowhere near the quality of our official 197mb pack. With the exception of a few textures, most textures are 60-70% jpg image quality as compared with our 197mb release.

Finally, I forgot to mention LordHavoc in our previous release. He has been a large help, giving advice and always answering questions. If you feel I've forgotten you as well, please let me know.

Well, it seems the last pack was a bit bugged (.link files pointed to .png, some textures had transparent edges, etc). Therefore, I quickly took down all mirrors of the pack (along with our downloads link) until they were fixed. In the meantime, Moon[Drunk], Tonik, and I have been hard at work correcting the mistakes. Finally, all of the bugs have been fixed and a new download is ready! Click the downloads link to the left to select a mirror. Make sure you read the last news post as it still contains very relevant information about the release and about the site/team.

October 01, 2007 - Up2nOgOoD[ROCK] (Retexture)
Many things have happened since the (!) last update which was more than a year ago. As promised last year, we are now including gloss, bump, and normal maps with our textures for those engines which support the feature (but this won't be out for another 1-2 weeks) :). These are mainly thanks to My-Key, who has worked hard and done almost all of the textures in the pack.

With this release, the new pack is our best texture pack ever (like all releases!). The pack is in uncompressed .TGA format (for faster loading time) and all texturs are inside a .pk3 file for user convenience. Although we have tons of new textures, the size of the pack has increased only 30 mb to 197 mb from 167 mb. When downloading this pack, please read the readme which is incredibly important especially for this release. If you are using FTE/Darkplaces or any engine which does not support .link files, you must follow the instructions in the readme to make full use of the textures in this pack. The site has also seen many updates. Here's a quick rundown:

Textures: The textures page have been updated to reflect both the new textures from the release and also to point out duplicates (you will see lots of "see this_texture"). I have now added a WAD section to the retexture project, where items like the hud could now be placed. This is in response to the recent surge of interest in the hud. Look for wad release sometime soon.

Goodies: Most notably, many graphics have been moved to http://gfx.qwdrama.com, a site by the friendly qwdrama crew. I've decided that the goodies section will store QRP-related items only, and non-faithful or non-QRP items will (at my discretion) be moved to qwdrama. RaRe has made both new buttons and new graphics for menus for Quake which look phenomenal. The buttons include fast forward/rewind, play/pause, and a stop button for use in your quake engine or anything else :). The window graphics will be featured in the next build of ezQuake (not yet released) for in-game menus :) Oh, and there's an updated mcharset.png courtesy of Moon[Drunk] :)

Screenshots: Updated with lots of new screenshots from dm/tf maps with the latest release. Remember, this is a community project, so if you have some nice screenshots, just e-mail them over to me :)

FAQ: Updated the faq a bit, added new questions, and some interesting stuff :) Most importantly, we have a new license for our textures. Please read about it in the FAQ section on the left, and let me know if you have any questions or comments. License information is thanks to Michiel S. (who is in no way affiliated with QRP, me, or ID Software).

Bugs: With the release of the .map files by John Romero last October, there has been much commotion about releasing a 100% free Quake. For this reason, the bug section has been updated with even more known texture bugs, namely sky textures. Tonik, the famous developer of zQuake, has come up with a solution to these bugs which I hope every engine developer adopts. I think it's safe to say that the bugs section is now closed seeing as how the solution is perfect and all Quake 1 texture bugs have been documented. This means that duplicate textures, different textures with same name, etc are fully documented.

Team: Some light changes to the QRP team have been made based on activity and output. Two notable additions include PrimeviL, a great skinner who has redone TONS of Quake textures for models for you guys, and Drugs-Bunny, who will help me on the remodeling portion of the site. I'd like one more person to help me, read below.

I need HELP! I told myself over the summer I would bring up to speed both the retexture and remodelling section of the site, but sadly my work remains only 50% completed. The retexture portion I am happy with, but the remodelling site has gone on without an update for a while (despite the fact that there has been a lot of activity). Drugs-Bunny has been recruited to help me maintain the remodelling section, however I'd like one more person. If you are familiar with basic HTML, know how to use FTP services, are trustworthy and well-known in the Quake scene (not to mention highly motivated to help the longest running and most successful Quake 1 project), please contact me

That's all for this update. Hopefully I'll update the site more :) There's lots to look forward to, but in the mean time, happy fragging :)

July 22, 2006 - Up2nOgOoD[ROCK] (Retexture)
Quake Expo kicks off its 10th anniversary special and the Quake Revitalization Project is there to celebrate. Check out our booth here. The QRP has a new addition, Rucas, who will be helping out by creating beloved normal maps! This is a great addition because it will relieve the load off of Moon[Drunk] and RaRe's shoulders to create textures while Rucas makes normals. Unfortunately, the upcoming retexture pack (which will be released July 22nd, 2006) will not have normal maps. However, you can expect future packs to come complete with them for your viewing pleasure :).

Update: THE RETEXTURE PROJECT HAS MADE A RELEASE! Download it from the download link on your left.

June 03, 2006 - Up2nOgOoD[ROCK] (QRP)

Not really a retexture/remodelling update, but more of a project update. The official release of the next retexture pack will be in the middle of Quake Expo, which is July 22nd, 2006. Also, the remodelling section will also see its first official model release on that date, featuring new models by ruohis, Plague's classic models, and maybe more. Anyway, this news post is to inform you of the "Goodies" link to the left. I'm not going to mention it here, just check it out :). Cheers.

March 18, 2006 - Up2nOgOoD[ROCK] (Remodel)

Hello! QRP has been going steadily and I'm happy with the progress we have made. RaRe has returned and has given us some very nice textures, and as always Moon[Drunk] has sent in his share. However, this news update is more for the remodeling section of the site. Ruohis has joined the Quake Remodelling portion and he is doing a fantastic job making faithful remodels. With newly-found inspiration, I've finally gotten off my ass and updated the remodeling section with new screenshots. I also added a Ammo/Health section which was missing for some reason (OOPS! HEH). Anyway, so far I only have MonkeyRat's (Plague) work and the hi-res bmodel textures Moon made. I will also add Ruohis' models when he distributes them as final. Cheers!

January 30, 2006 - Up2nOgOoD[ROCK] (Retexture)

Hey guys! Lots of people have been asking about the current status of the retexture and remodel projects. Sorry about the long gap in the update, but I promise we have been very well active. I predict our next pack might be out in one or two months, however I MAY extend this deadline to this year's Quake Expo to celebrate 10 years of Quake. Moon[Drunk] is still cranking out some great looking textures as always, and RaRe has returned and has done some outstanding work. The texture screenshots (look to your left) have been updated with the latest textures I have on my drive; so if you're interested you could take a peek there. I couldn't bare holding on to this gem any longer, but RaRe has created a Quake-themed cursor for use in your Quake clients! It is really a great cursor which matches perfectly with the popular menu textures that are floating around everywhere (fuhquake/equake packs). Here is a screenshot of the cursor in action. To download it, click the "other" or "download" link on the left side. Currently, only FTE supports a cursor-driven menu. I am in talks with the nice folks who work on EzQuake to get them to support it as well. If you are a Quake Engine developer and would like to be mentioned, please contact me. A short documentation has been provided to help users install and customize (yes, customize) their cursor using FTE.

September 13, 2005 - Up2nOgOoD[ROCK] (Retexture)

Just wanted to make an update with some facts; In August 2005, the Netherlands accounted for 51% of the network traffic to this site! :) Also, many people have asked for an official "how many texture left" count. I can finally give it to you guys: about 120 textures left to do. Interesting stuff, eh?

September 11, 2005 - Up2nOgOoD[ROCK] (Remodel)

Despite my lack of time (re: school), I have made some small progress on the remodel page. You will find the thumbnails resized to allow for better viewing when I upload new models/thumbnails. Things are in the works, it will just take a little bit of time. I also know that I'm missing some models like the health boxes, et cetera. I'll take care of it soon (re: no one e-mailed offering help).
Update:
Fixed some minor bugs in the Retexture/textures pages (links not working, spelling, teleport, slime, lava textures not showing up).

August 25, 2005 - Up2nOgOoD[ROCK] (Retexture)

Sorry I haven't updated the page in a bit, but here's some good news! For this year's Qexpo, QRP made another Retexture release! You can find the latest release, as always, in our Download section. The new pack includes new textures; most notably "Tech" textures (Aerowalk/dm3-type textures). Furthermore, Fuh was kind enough to make a small tool which resizes textures to the correct (optimal) viewing size to preserve quality and maintain a small file size. The High/Low naming scheme used in Qexpo shouldn't throw you off; the "Low" pack is indeed resized textures that will reduce load time, boost fps, and still have excellent quality.

I recommend the High pack for people who play in VERY high resolutions or people who have had no fps drop using our previous releases. For the other 90% of us, the "Low" version should suffice. Screenshots page will be updated soon to reflect the new pack.

The Remodel project has seen very few (one) updates from when it was brought back to life; however I promise you I haven't forgotten about it. Give me time. I'm looking for someone who can help me with the Remodel section. I pretty much know what I want, but I don't have the time to do it. If you are dedicated, focused, and want to help this humble project, please email me. You need knowledge in working with Adobe Photoshop, html, and adquedit (or anything if you can extract textures from models).

On a final note, I'll be adding a .plan section to this page to outline the project's priorities and where we are headed.

April 24, 2005 - Up2nOgOoD[ROCK] (Remodel)

Well, to hit it off, Moon[Drunk] has made some default skin replacement for the original ID models! This means you can enjoy the luxury of new textures during league play without being considered a cheater by f_modified (I.E. this is completely legit). Health boxes, ammo boxes, and armor models are included in this pack. Visit the download link to the left to get them and the screenshots link to preview them!

Welcome to QRMP's new site, hosted by www.QuakeDev.com ! Thanks to Echon for providing us great hosting. I have much to say about the direction Quake Remodeling and Quake Retexturing is headed; ultimately to .. revitalize Quake :) I'm searching for someone who can make me a nice logo like that of the Quake Retexture Project's, the dimensions must be 650x100.

April 11, 2005 - Up2nOgOoD[ROCK] (Retexture)

Welcome to QRP's new site, hosted by www.QuakeDev.com ! Thanks to Echon for providing us great hosting. I have finally given the site yet another face lift and I hope to keep this updated whenever news is available. Speaking about news, our new pack is due to be released in August for Qexpo, but Moon[Drunk] is working on some goodies in the mean time! Stay tuned for more...
